Former Indian cricket coach Rahul Dravid has clarified that he won’t interfere in cricket decisions as the owner of Dublin Guardians in the European T20 League (ETPL). He stated that captain Ravichandran Ashwin will have complete autonomy in managing the team. Dravid, who has worked with various franchise owners during his coaching career, emphasized the need to maintain distance from the team’s day-to-day cricket operations in his new role. He prioritizes building a strong structure around the team over getting involved in on-field decisions. “I genuinely believe the plan is for me not to be involved in the cricketing aspect. So, creating a good team that can do the job on a daily basis,” he said. “You won’t see me in the dugout for sure. And I’m not the kind of person who will be present at every practice or even every game.”Dravid considers it positive that Ashwin is on board as captain and mentor. “We’re fortunate to have someone like Ashwin as captain and mentor.”According to Dravid, his role is to build a good team, both on and off the field, and ensure the franchise’s off-field operations run smoothly. He describes franchise ownership as a “new frontier” and acknowledges there’s still much to learn in this new role. The ETPL features teams from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. Despite the growing number of T20 leagues globally, Dravid believes this league has enough potential to carve its own identity.
