The old Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati is set to reopen to vehicular traffic at 12.30 pm on Tuesday, September 15, following the completion of repair and maintenance work that kept the bridge closed for more than two months. The bridge was shut from July 13 to September 15 to enable the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway to carry out necessary repairs on the railway bridge. Authorities had announced the closure on July 7 and advised commuters to use alternative routes during the repair period. With the scheduled work now completed, vehicles will once again be permitted to cross the old Saraighat Bridge from 12.30 pm, easing traffic pressure and providing significant relief to commuters who have relied on alternative routes since July. The reopening is expected to restore a key road link across the Brahmaputra and improve connectivity for motorists travelling between different parts of Guwahati and surrounding areas.
