Tension prevailed in parts of Kangpokpi district on Sunday after residents of Konsakhul Naga Village alleged that armed cadres of the Kuki National Front (Progressive) [KNF(P)], along with individuals from neighbouring Leilon Vaiphei village, attacked villagers following the disruption of the village’s water supply.
According to a statement issued by village representatives, the incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. after the water supply line serving Konsakhul was allegedly cut, creating hardship for residents and escalating tensions in the area.
Villagers claimed that shortly afterwards, armed persons ambushed residents, leaving one individual seriously injured. Community leaders described the incident as an unprovoked attack on civilians and appealed to the authorities to restore security and essential services.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and security agencies had not issued an official statement on the claims at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, an official order issued by the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi District, on May 29 has come to light, showing that an F-Company of the 112 Battalion CRPF stationed at Kangchup Water Supply and K. Geljang was redeployed to Kharam Vaiphei with immediate effect due to the prevailing law-and-order situation.
The order, signed by Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta, IPS, directed that the CRPF unit be shifted to Kharam Vaiphei under Kangchup Police Station until further orders.
The redeployment occurred amid heightened security concerns in the region following recent incidents of violence and reports of armed activity around Kharam Vaiphei. Residents of Konsakhul have expressed concern that the movement of security personnel away from the water supply area may have left critical infrastructure vulnerable.
Village authorities have urged the state government and security agencies to ensure the protection of civilians, restore uninterrupted water supply and conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged attack.
The latest development comes amid continuing tensions in Kangpokpi district, where inter-community disputes and security concerns have remained a major challenge in recent months.
