While Assamese athletes continue to achieve success at both national and international levels, emerging Kurash players from the state are also making their mark. Following the recently concluded 8th Senior Men’s and Women’s National Kurash Championship at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, four female players from Assam have qualified for the Pre-Kurash Championship.
Starting today, the 15th Senior National Kurash Championship, organized by the Kurash Federation of India (KFI) in collaboration with the Assam Kurash Association, is being held in Tamil Nadu. Representing Assam, Manika Das has secured a spot in the 48 kg category, while Mudasra Begum will compete in the 52 kg category.
After strong performances in state-level trials, these athletes earned their spots to represent Assam on the national stage.
In addition to Manika and Mudasra, players like Nishita Baruah (48 kg) and Nabanita Das (52 kg) have also displayed impressive skills in their respective categories.
The General Secretary of the Assam Kurash Association expressed high hopes for the team, noting that the sport is gaining significant momentum in the Northeast.
The championship, which features athletes from across the country, is seen as a vital stepping stone for these players to qualify for international tournaments. The event is scheduled to conclude on 19 April.
