Security forces and intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have identified a senior commander from the Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) alongside a local associate as the key perpetrators behind recent targeted killings of non-local migrant laborers in the Kashmir Valley, according to senior police officials reported by The Hindu. Authorities state that the LeT operative, who recently infiltrated across the border, coordinated with a local militant aide to execute surprise armed attacks against non-native workers, truckers, and fruit traders operating across southern Kashmir districts such as Shopian and Pulwama. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the deliberate targeting of non-locals aims to instill fear, disrupt economic stability during the critical agricultural harvest season, and sabotage local community ties. In response to the wave of violence, joint security teams comprising the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force, and local police have intensified multi-district combing operations, establishing heightened night surveillance and cordon search maneuvers across vulnerable pockets to neutralize the suspects. Meanwhile, local authorities have advised migrant workers to remain vigilant and utilize designated secure quarters as anti-terror forces continue high-alert operations to trace the fleeing suspects and prevent further casualties.
