Reliance Industries is set to commence a planned maintenance shutdown of a crude distillation unit and several secondary units at its 660,000 barrels per day (bpd) Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat around mid-May 2026. This routine maintenance is expected to last between three to four weeks. The refinery undergoing maintenance is primarily dedicated to supplying refined fuels for the domestic Indian market, while Reliance’s separate 704,000 bpd refinery at the same complex remains focused on exports.
The shutdown has been strategically timed to begin after the private firm Nayara Energy resumes operations at its 400,000 bpd refinery. This coordination is intended to prevent any potential fuel shortages in India during the maintenance period. Despite being a routine procedure, the shutdown occurs against a backdrop of global energy market instability and increased domestic demand for fuels like LPG, which Reliance has recently prioritized by adjusting its operational product mix.
