Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on track to secure a decisive victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, predicting a tally of more than 90 seats in the 126-member house. Speaking at a series of high-octane rallies across Upper Assam and the Barak Valley, Shah emphasized that the “pro-incumbency” wave is fueled by the twin engines of peace and infrastructure. He cited the resolution of long-standing insurgent conflicts and the successful implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord as primary reasons for the electorate’s continued trust in the “double-engine” government.
The Home Minister’s confidence stems from what he describes as a “fundamental shift” in Assam’s political culture—moving away from the era of blockades and protests toward one of high-speed development and digital connectivity. Shah also highlighted the strategic importance of the recent delimitation exercise, asserting that it has finally “empowered the indigenous people” and protected the state’s cultural identity from demographic challenges. While the opposition has dismissed these claims as electoral rhetoric, the BJP’s aggressive “Target 90+” campaign signals a push to not just win, but to establish an absolute and unchallenged dominance in the state’s legislative landscape for the next five years.
