A total of 25 candidates filed their nomination papers for the bye-election to the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam.
Wednesday was the last day for filing nominations for the bye-election.
An official statement said that 25 candidates have filed 35 nomination papers for the election.
It is worth mentioning that Devasish Sharma from the BJP, Md. Badruddin Ajmal from the AIUDF,Sibamoni Bora from the Congres, Abdul Salam from Trinamool Congress were among the candidates who filed nomination papers.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Thursday. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 19 and the voting will take place on October 6, 2026.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Pradyut Bordoloi, who won in 2019 and 2024 as a Congress candidate, resigned ahead of the April 9, 2026, Assembly elections and joined the BJP. He now represents the BJP from the Dispur Assembly constituency.
