Solar Success Over 17% of Assam’s Solar Households Achieve Zero Electricity Bills Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 17.6% of households in the state that have installed rooftop solar panels under the Central Government’s flagship PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana are now paying zero electricity bills. Sharing the achievement on social media, the Chief Minister highlighted that the solar energy program has significantly eased the financial burden of utility expenses for thousands of families while substantially advancing the state’s clean energy transition. By enabling residential properties to generate their own sustainable power, the initiative delivers crucial dual benefits: expanding immediate economic security for consumers through lowered monthly bills and reinforcing long-term regional energy independence.
The rapid, high rate of adoption has positioned Assam among the top five performing states nationwide in the effective implementation of the central rooftop solar initiative. In close coordination with federal authorities, the Assam government has been aggressively promoting green technologies at the household level by encouraging eligible residents to install solar systems and access available financial subsidies.
