Under the initiative of BCPL, a spectacular day-night friendly cricket match was held last night at the Jalan Outdoor Stadium under the ownership of Dibrugarh. It felt as if a severe competitive cricket atmosphere had been created under the night sky. The match was played between the Media XI of Dibrugarh District and the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DSA) XI.
Even amidst a highly busy schedule, the sports journalists put up a commendable performance. Every single moment of the match was filled with intense excitement and competitiveness. The Media XI put up a spirited fight till the very last moment against the formidable Dibrugarh District Sports Association team. It is worth mentioning that despite being under heavy pressure at one point, the Media XI held their ground firmly to bounce back into the game. In a thrilling finish, Dibrugarh District Sports Association managed to pull off a victory by just two runs.
The District Sports Association (DSA) won the toss and elected to bat first. Exceptional bowling by the Media XI’s bowlers restricted the DSA XI to a total of 72 runs in their designated 12 overs.
Chasing a target of 73 runs for victory in 12 overs, the Media XI got off to a rocky start. However, showing immense resilience to chase the target, the Media XI fought back intensely, taking the match down to the wire in the final over, needing 7 runs off the last 6 balls. The final over became highly dramatic and enticing, as Media XI needed 3 runs off the last ball to win. Unfortunately, they missed out on scoring off the last ball and fell short by just 2 runs, allowing the District Sports Association to celebrate a hard-fought victory.
Presentation Ceremony:
Following the conclusion of the match, a solemn presentation ceremony was held in a wonderful environment, where prizes were distributed to both the winning and runner-up teams.
The friendly night match, organized at the stadium under the initiative of the Dibrugarh District Sports Association, was graced by several dignitaries. Notable attendees included Niranjan Saikia, President of Dibrugarh District Sports Association, Kamakhya Saikia, General Secretary of Dibrugarh District Sports Association ,Manasjyoti Dutta, Executive President, Senior Journalists Biswajit Das, Ratul Buragohain, Devajit Bhuyan, and other officials and sports journalists.
It is highly hoped that this friendly cricket match will further strengthen the relationship and bond between the media fraternity and the District Sports Association.
