Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome has called for coordinated action among government departments to address waste management, water supply and other pressing urban issues in Kohima. Speaking at the Kohima District Planning and Development Board meeting on August 17, he directed the Public Health Engineering Department to submit a report on proposed water treatment initiatives and urged the Urban Affairs and Municipal Affairs departments to prepare for implementation of the Supreme Court’s waste management directives. Dr Yhome noted that waste management plans have already been initiated in areas including Lerie and the Kohima landfill site, stressing the importance of timely and coordinated execution. He also asked departments to prepare details of sectoral outlays under Externally Aided Projects, particularly for solid and liquid waste management, for discussion at the next monthly meeting. Relevant agencies were further directed to present updates on urban development, while departments handling rural development, urban engineering and disaster management were asked to conduct quick surveys of major community concerns and submit reports. The meeting was chaired by Kohima Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruopfükuotuo Noudi.
