Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu that a proper and impartial investigation will be conducted into the recent firing incident along the inter-state border in Dhemaji district. At least 12 people from Assam were injured on Monday after allegedly being fired upon by individuals from across Arunachal Pradesh amid a dispute over alleged land encroachment. Pegu, who was deputed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to monitor the situation, said Khandu assured him that anyone found responsible would face action in accordance with the law. The incident has heightened tensions along the Assam-Arunachal border, with the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) launching an indefinite economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh in protest. During their telephonic conversation, Pegu and Khandu also discussed restarting talks on the long-standing inter-state boundary dispute through joint regional committees. Pegu said the Assam Cabinet has reconstituted the regional committees with new ministers and senior government officials. Both leaders reportedly agreed that continued dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation are essential to resolving outstanding border issues peacefully. The latest developments are aimed at easing tensions and restoring normal relations between communities on both sides of the border while ensuring accountability for the firing incident.
