Vivek Oberoi stated that he is really proud of his cousin Akshay Oberoi and has fond memories of growing up together.
Vivek Oberoi made his film debut in the early 2000s and quickly achieved success at the box office. While Vivek’s career endured a hiatus in the late 2000s, the actor continued to appear in films, and by 2010, when his nephew Akshay Oberoi made his Bollywood debut, Vivek was an accomplished actor. But, according to Akshay’s past interviews, the two did not have a “real relationship.” However, Vivek has now stated that this is not the case, and after reading Akshay’s interviews, when Vivek questioned him about his comments, Akshay reportedly stated that he had been “misinterpreted.”
Vivek was asked about Akshay’s comments about the cousins not communicating during an interview with the Hindustan Times. “I asked him what transpired and what the interview was about. He answered, ‘No, it’s been misrepresented,’ but it’s best that he speak for himself. As far as I’m concerned, I adore Akshay and am extremely proud of what he has accomplished,” he said, adding that they are always present for each other’s birthdays and other occasions. “As a family, we are always present on each other’s birthdays. They always visit our house during Diwali or my parents’ anniversary. So we had a lot of celebrations together, and we have some wonderful memories from growing up together,” he remarked.
Vivek is the son of Suresh Oberoi, a prominent actor. He expressed his admiration for Akshay for forging forth on his own. “The one thing that is true, and I am extremely proud of him for, is that he has carved his own path, just as I am proud that I have as well. I didn’t have any uncles, aunts, chachas, tayas, or mamas telling me, ‘I’m going to launch you, and you’ll get a break because of me. I’ve never had that kind of support system. Whatever I am today, I have been through the grind, worked hard, and God has been good,” he stated.
He further stated that Akshay did not seek the assistance of any family members in order to gain a role in the film industry. “The same goes for Akshay. Every piece of success and respect he enjoys is well deserved, because he is solely responsible for it, as it should be. It should not be based on whether you are a nephew, cousin, or buddy. It must be based on pure merit. And Akshay has achieved everything on his own merit, which I am really proud of,” he remarked.
Akshay previously told the Free Press Journal that he couldn’t contact Vivek since they didn’t have a “real relationship”. “It isn’t like I could call and approach him, you know. Unfortunately, I do not say it with pride, but with sadness: there was no true relationship. So, what should I call and ask him? “I just went my own way,” he explained. In another interview with YouTube channel Cyrus Says, Akshay hinted that his and Vivek’s families had a strained relationship. “Unfortunately, for whatever reason, there wasn’t a clear channel of communication. As if I couldn’t pick up the phone and tell him about it. Just as it was. I’ve never done it.
