Assam has received the highest allocation under the Centre’s latest Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 fund release, with ₹669.92 crore sanctioned through the SNA SPARSH platform to strengthen rural drinking water infrastructure across the state. The fund is aimed at supporting ongoing rural water supply projects and ensuring improved access to safe drinking water.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti announced that nearly ₹5,300 crore has been reimbursed to 10 states for rural water supply projects implemented during the transition from JJM 1.0 to JJM 2.0. Additionally, ₹865.87 crore has been released to 13 states through the SNA SPARSH platform for continuing approved schemes.
Under the latest disbursement, Assam received the largest share, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal and Tripura, which received ₹5.98 crore. The funding mechanism is designed to improve transparency, enable real-time expenditure tracking and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
The Union Cabinet approved JJM 2.0 on March 10, extending the rural drinking water mission until December 2028 with a total financial outlay of ₹8.69 lakh crore. The second phase focuses on long-term service delivery, operation and maintenance, water quality monitoring, community participation and sustainable water sources.
The Centre said the initiative aims to ensure reliable tap water supply to every rural household while strengthening water management systems across states and Union Territories.
