Turning FIFA Fever Into a Carnival Assam Launches Dedicated World Cup Fan Parks in Guwahati and Dibrugarh

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the launch of the “CM FIFA Fan Park” initiative, introducing dedicated public viewing venues in Guwahati and Upper Assam to tap into the global football craze. Organized by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), the fan parks have been set up to offer local enthusiasts an immersive, carnival-like community viewing experience free of cost. The dual venues are strategically located at the historic Latasil Playground in Uzan Bazar, Guwahati—which officially opened to thousands of fans on Monday night—and the Chowkidingee Field in Dibrugarh, which kicks off its live broadcasts today. Matches are being screened live on giant LED screens equipped with professional high-end sound systems, specialized food stalls, and active security measures to keep up with the high energy of the newly expanded Round of 32 knockout stage.

The initiative is designed as a major strategic step toward integrating Assam into the global sports tourism landscape. Alongside the matches, the fan parks feature an integrated entertainment layout, showcasing live performances by local artists and bands on a dedicated stage to celebrate the region’s vibrant cultural and musical identity. While residents have overwhelmingly welcomed the festive screenings, some have raised concerns regarding safety and traffic management for the late-night and early-morning match kick-offs. In response, ATDC managing director Padmapani Bora confirmed that state police and local municipal bodies have been heavily mobilized to handle crowd control and ensure secure transits, ensuring that the passion of Northeast football fans takes center stage in a secure environment.
