Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Assam for a two-day visit, marking a significant milestone in the state’s development with the inauguration and foundation-stone laying of projects worth over ₹47,800 crore. The centerpieces of this visit include the inauguration of the strategic 1.6-km-long Tinsukia-Dhola bridge and the virtual “Gruh Pravesh” for over 5.5 lakh houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Additionally, the Prime Minister is set to dedicate the expanded Digboi Refinery and the new Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Jal Shakti pipeline, moves aimed at bolstering the region’s energy security and industrial capacity.
Beyond infrastructure, the visit carries heavy symbolic and environmental weight as the Prime Minister spent time at Kaziranga National Park, emphasizing the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation and eco-tourism. This visit is also strategically timed ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, serving as a platform to highlight the “Double Engine” government’s success in integrating the Northeast into the national economic mainstream. By flagging off new high-speed train services and laying the groundwork for multiple healthcare facilities, the Prime Minister aims to showcase a comprehensive vision for a “Viksit Assam” (Developed Assam).
