Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik highlighted that carbon-free data centres will not only generate employment but also promote domestic manufacturing of renewable energy and storage solutions. Speaking at the inaugural First Data Centre Summit on Carbon-Free Energy in New Delhi, he emphasized that each new carbon-free data centre constructed in India will create green jobs, support indigenous renewable energy production, and foster innovative digital-energy business models. The event was organized by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) in partnership with Amazon.
Naik stressed the importance of merging the digital and clean energy revolutions, noting that India’s energy transition focuses not only on capacity but also on jobs, skills, and innovation. According to NSEFI, carbon-free data centres operate entirely on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and energy storage.
NSEFI Director General Deepak Gupta mentioned that data centres could source solar power directly from farmers or through decentralised agrivoltaic projects. The summit brought together policymakers, renewable energy experts, and industry leaders to promote sustainable digital infrastructure in India.
