The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to bar players from staying with their families for the duration of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Sticking to its previously established policy for major ICC events, the board emphasized the need for players to maintain peak concentration and adhere to a disciplined team environment. While families are often permitted to join players during bilateral tours, the BCCI maintains that the high-stakes nature of a World Cup requires a “strictly professional” atmosphere to minimise outside distractions and ensure the squad remains focused on the title.
The decision has sparked a mix of reactions, as some believe the presence of family provides essential emotional support during long, high-pressure tournaments. However, officials cited the logistical complexities and the importance of team bonding as primary reasons for the restriction. This policy will apply to the entire contingent, including coaching staff, ensuring that the team operates as a cohesive unit from the start of the group stages through to the knockout phase.
