Addressing a massive rally in Dibrugarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah kickstarted the BJP’s 2026 assembly election campaign by emphasising that only the Bharatiya Janata Party can safeguard Assam from illegal infiltration. Shah accused the Congress party of historically encouraging infiltrators from Bangladesh to secure their power as a dedicated “vote bank,” a policy he claims has severely threatened the state’s security and unique culture. He lauded the current Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government for its decisive actions, including the reclamation of over 1.26 lakh bighas of land from encroachers and the initiation of projects to make the state flood-free.
Looking ahead to the upcoming polls, Shah made a bold commitment that a third consecutive term for the BJP would ensure the identification and deportation of every illegal immigrant remaining in the state. Beyond security, he underscored the government’s focus on infrastructure and regional development, highlighted by the foundation stone laying for a new assembly complex in Dibrugarh, which is being positioned as Assam’s “second capital.” Shah appealed to voters to reject “corrupt and pro-infiltrator” leadership, promising that under the continued guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarma, Assam would continue its “golden period” of peace and prosperity.
