Three major shopping malls in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj—DLF Promenade, DLF Emporio, and Ambience Mall—are on the verge of shutting down due to a severe water shortage. Known for attracting celebrities, tourists, and luxury shoppers, these popular destinations might close before Diwali if the water crisis continues. This marks the first time such upscale malls in the capital face such a critical water issue, forcing management to consider temporary closures.
According to News18, if the Delhi government and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) don’t restore water supply within the next two to three days, businesses worth crores could suffer, and thousands of jobs might be at risk. Toilets are clogged, about 70% of restrooms are closed, and restaurants struggle to operate without water, worsening the festive season experience. The malls have historically faced water challenges since Vasant Kunj’s development in 2008, but the recent government ban on private tanker water supply has intensified the crisis.
Besides malls, offices of Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, and ONGC, as well as a nearby premium hotel, are also affected. Despite ongoing talks with authorities, no permanent water connection has been provided to this upscale area yet.
