Consumer court orders two private hospitals in Guwahati to pay compensation for medical negligence

The Assam State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered two private hospitals in Guwahati to pay compensation in two separate cases of medical negligence.
Thr commission ordered Dispur Policlinic and Hospital to pay a compensation of Rs. 5,90,713 to the complainant within six weeks, while in a similar case, Institute of Human Reproduction, Guwahati was asked to pay a compensation Rs. 40,15,200 within six weeks.
In the case of Dispur Policlinic and Hospital, the complainant gave birth to a child through ceasarian section, and after she was shifted to the recovery room, she suffered severe burn injuries on her right leg due to alleged negligence of a nurse, who had put a heater close to the complainant.
Since she was in medication for her burn injuries, she could not breastfeed her baby.
In the second case, the Institute of Human Reproduction was ordered to pay the compensation amount for the death of a mother of two children while she gave birth to her third child due to alleged medical negligence.
