The second Nagaland Regional Board Meeting of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) reviewed plans to strengthen healthcare and expand the ESI Scheme across the State, with Regional Board chairman Moatoshi Longkumer emphasising the need for a 100-bed ESIC Hospital. Speaking at the meeting in Kohima, Longkumer urged the Labour Department, employers and employees’ representatives to accelerate registration of eligible establishments and insured persons, noting that reaching 15,000 insured persons would facilitate the hospital’s establishment. The meeting also discussed engaging doctors and paramedical staff at enhanced remuneration to improve medical services. Plans were outlined to identify land for ESIC branch offices in Tuensang, Mokokchung and Mon, with temporary premises to be considered until suitable land is allotted. Officials also discussed closer coordination between the Labour Department and Social Security Officers to expedite registrations, while awareness programmes and health camps were proposed to improve outreach. The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research has also approached the Health Department regarding an MoU with ESIC for delivering medical services to beneficiaries. The Board stressed regular reviews, with meetings to be held every six months, to ensure effective implementation and wider coverage of the ESI Scheme in Nagaland.
