19-year-old Mirra Andreeva has become the youngest player to reach three WTA 1,000 finals, stunning Hailey Baptiste 6-4 7-6 (10-8) to secure her spot in the Madrid Open final. Andreeva, who’s been on fire on clay this season, will face Marta Kostyuk, who beat Anastasia Potapova 6-2 1-6 6-1, in Saturday’s showdown.
Andreeva’s incredible run continues, with 13 wins from 14 clay-court matches this season. She took the Linz title and reached Stuttgart semis, and now eyes her first WTA 1,000 crown. “I’m feeling so much adrenaline, still nervous, but happy I saved those set points,” Andreeva said.
In the men’s draw, defending champ Casper Ruud fell to Alexander Blockx 6-4 6-4. Unseeded Blockx, 69th in the world, faces Alexander Zverev in his first tour-level semi-final. Zverev beat Flavio Cobolli 6-1 6-4 and meets Jannik Sinner vs Arthur Fils winner Friday.
