On March 7, 2026, police in Assam’s Cachar district arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly abducting and raping a four-and-a-half-year-old girl. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the survivor’s family, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the accused, an acquaintance of the family, entered their home while the adults were away. He reportedly lured the child to his house by promising to buy her chocolate.
The girl was found by family members around 7:00 PM near a local tea garden after a frantic search. The survivor recounted that the man took her from his house to the plantation area, where the assault occurred. Following a medical examination and the recording of the child’s statement under the observation of the Child Welfare Committee, police detained the suspect on Friday and formally arrested him on Saturday.
